August 2014. This may be my favorite. I wrote the first part a while back but it never went anywhere. When I came upon the lyrics recently, I decided it would be a journey home. It then took over a life of its own. I did not know where it would go, but the writing went very quickly and I was a bit surprised with the denouement.
I recorded the guitar track then the voice then bass. Finally I put the piano in. It’s the first song in which there’s a prominent role for the piano.
I played this on the guitar at a recent acoustic-guitar meet-up. I normally don’t play longer songs but I did with this. I think it was too long for the crowd, and someone said it was Don McLeanish, which in context I didn’t take as a compliment.
